Karie Bennett

Karie Bennett cut her own bangs on her third birthday and never looked back. However, her official journey as a hairstylist began in 1981, and she opened her first Atelier Salon in Los Altos in 1997. In 2002, she opened the Bay Area’s flagship Aveda salon at Santana Row in San Jose, California. Today, Atelier is 70 employees strong and includes three salon locations in the Silicon Valley.

Her salons have earned several prestigious industry business accolades, including the Master of Business Award (NAHA) and the UCLA Anderson School of Management Global Salon Business Award. Atelier has also received Salon Today magazine’s Annual Marketing Award and has been named to the Salon Today 200 salon list multiple times, awards which Bennett calls a compass, rather than a badge. "Industry recognition is a great source of pride, but it mainly tells us we are heading in the right direction."

In 2017, Bennett became the first salon owner to receive the Silicon Valley Business Journal’s 100 Women of Influence award. In the same year, she was elected to the Professional Beauty Association’s Salon/Spa Advisory Board. She considers the keys to her salon’s success to be nice people, education, location and perspiration.
